Letting your christmas tree "settle"

Dh told me we have to let our christmas tree settle before decorating it. What is this all about and how long does this settling take?

Re: Letting your christmas tree "settle"

you have to let the tree settle, which means give the tree at least 24 hours for the branches to start taking shape. It will fill out this way.,

Just a day--the branches have to open up a little, especially if iti was tied in that plastic netting.

Re: Letting your christmas tree "settle"

We usually let ours settle in the garage for a day or two after we cut it down, and let it soak in water with tree food.

Once set up in the house, we gave it 24 hours, and then placed the lights on it and then decorated it the next day.

It allows the branches to come down and any needles to fall out before you take it inside.

Re: Letting your christmas tree "settle"

the branches are going to fall a little after being tied up.

if you decorate it too soon, the branches won't be in the proper position and it'll just be FUBAR

Re: Letting your christmas tree "settle"

I was going to post this EXACT thing today!

Two people said this to me, including DH. Me and my mom, NEVER did this and our tree was fine every year.

I decorated our tree right away, it wasn't tied up when we picked it out. They tied it up when we bought it and we brought it home and untied it five minutes later.

Yup! I do that. I usually let it sit overnight before decorating. If you put the lights and ornaments on before the branches come down a bit, the decorations don't looks so pretty once the branches settle.
